Digestion, the Microbiome and More

Digestion – Far More than our Gut or Microbiome

Digestion is far more than our gut, diet, reactions to individual foods, or even our microbiome. Digestion is central on every level of Kim’s treatment design. It is the process of assimilation and change. It’s not just about food. It’s also about how we assimilate (digest) life, our experiences, our relationships, the world around us and our food. It’s about our relationship to and interconnectedness with everything. It’s no coincidence that our digestion happens in our centre! It’s about coming back to our source.

Small Imbalances Can Have Big Consequences

We are bombarded with an array of diets that are leaving people confused: “I’ve got x intolerance”, “I’m Paleo”, “I’m Keto”… One of Kim’s passions is supporting clients to discover the connections and interconnections around digestion. It’s less about particular foods and more about understanding our own individual constitution, what life transition one may be going through combined with balanced lifestyle choices – are you creating health and wellness OR sickness and depletion. The gut works best when life is simple. Small imbalances can have big consequences to one’s health and well-being.

Causes of Imbalance

Causes of imbalance include (but are not limited to): Auto-immune triggers, parasites, mineral deficiencies, inflammation, undiagnosed disease, chronic illnesses and improper lifestyle.

Assessing Digestive Imbalances

There is a wide range of tests and technologies available to assess digestive imbalances, where needed. Tests such as complete microbiome mapping can identify helpful and unhelpful bacteria. Kim may request an integrative pathology test to enhance your treatment strategy.

Kim’s Approach to Treatment

Specific treatments such as herbal medicine and acupuncture, education about diet and lifestyle are tailored to each person individually.  With this multipronged approach many clients find it extremely interesting to learn about their health conditions specific to their own lifestyle.  I use the term “lightbulb moments” as clients discover through Oriental Medicine principles, that certain lifestyle habits may have been hindering their recovery and sometimes even causing their imbalances.
